Why sector specialists outperform generalist recruiters in the Gulf

A generalist recruiter can fill a job title. A sector specialist can tell you, before the first candidate is even sourced, which of three finance directors on the market actually has DIFC-specific regulatory experience — and which only looks like they do on paper.

That distinction matters more in the Gulf than almost anywhere else. Regulatory frameworks differ by financial centre, technical certifications carry different weight depending on the operator, and a CV that reads well in London or Mumbai doesn't always translate cleanly into what a Gulf hiring manager actually needs.

Sector depth is what closes that gap. It's the difference between a shortlist built from keyword matches and one built from a genuine understanding of what the role requires, who's realistically qualified, and who's actually reachable right now.

That's the case for a specialist model over a generalist one — go deep in oil & gas and finance, because that's where the sourcing gets hardest, and where a generic search doesn't hold up.
